What is Perplexity Finance?
Ecomerate wrote this comparison, so read it knowing we have a stake. Every Perplexity fact below comes from Perplexity's own finance page, blog, changelog and help center, checked on October 29, 2026.
Perplexity Finance is the markets part of Perplexity, the AI answer engine. Its tabs cover US markets, crypto, earnings, prediction markets, a screener, politicians' trades, watchlists and your portfolio. Its earnings hub has a calendar and summarizes earnings calls while they are happening. Perplexity says finance answers in Computer and Deep Research are powered by more than 40 tools that pull from SEC filings and market data sources, and that Deep Research lets you trace a figure back to where it came from.
The research is the strong part. Questions like how a company's margins moved over eight quarters, or what management said about demand on the last call, are what it is built for, and the answer comes with its sources.
Can Perplexity Finance see your portfolio?
Yes. Perplexity's changelog says users in the US and Canada could connect brokerage accounts through Plaid from March 2026, and on April 9, 2026 it added bank accounts, credit cards and loans. Perplexity says the Plaid integration is read-only. It launched on desktop for signed-in users, with mobile and other countries to follow.
Free Standard users can link a portfolio, use the basic Portfolio page and ask about their finances. The deeper tools sit in Computer, Perplexity's agent for Pro and Max subscribers, which can build a net worth dashboard, a budget tracker or a retirement model on top of your linked accounts.
Does Perplexity Finance alert you about your stocks?
On terms you set. Price alerts fire when an asset hits a target price or an intraday move you choose; Perplexity then runs a query you can customize and sends an email or push notification. Perplexity Tasks run scheduled searches and daily summaries, and Computer has its own scheduled tasks on an Automations dashboard.
All of these depend on you deciding ahead of time what to watch. A price alert tells you a stock moved. It doesn't know why you own it, so it can't tell you whether the move matters to your reasons.
How is Ecomerate different?
Ecomerate starts with what you own and why. Text it a position and a line on your reasons, and it keeps that thesis. When a new 10-Q, 8-K or Form 4 touches an assumption you gave it, it texts you at a sensible time with the detail quoted and the filing named. It also texts when guidance changes, when a holding moves well outside its own normal range and a cause is found, and when there is news on a supplier or customer it has mapped through Chains.
You reply in the same thread to ask what changed, how estimates were revised, or how it compares with last quarter. If you opt in, it texts on the Monday of earnings week with which holdings report and what your thesis hinges on. By default it sends about three proactive texts a week, so it stays quiet when nothing matters.
When is Perplexity Finance the better choice?
If your main job is research across many companies, Perplexity is the stronger tool. Following an earnings call as it happens, screening for ideas, checking prediction markets or crypto, and reading cited answers on a company you don't own yet are all things it does well, much of it free.
It also covers more of your money. You can link bank accounts, cards and loans, and Computer can turn them into custom dashboards and spreadsheets. It works on the web and on Android, and account linking covers Canada. Ecomerate needs an Apple device and covers US-listed stocks and ETFs only.
Where does Ecomerate fit?
Ecomerate is narrower on purpose. It covers US-listed stocks and ETFs, not crypto, international markets or spending. It uses the positions you text it, since brokerage connections aren't live yet. It places no orders today; automated trading is coming soon. It is research software, not an adviser, and it never tells you to buy, sell or hold.
The two work well side by side. Use Perplexity to research a company before you buy, then text Ecomerate why you bought it, so the filings and earnings reports that follow are read against that reason.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Ecomerate if...
You hold individual US stocks for specific reasons and want an analyst in iMessage that remembers them, reads each new filing and earnings report against them, names its sources, and texts you first when something changes.
Choose Perplexity Finance if...
You research many companies and markets, want an earnings hub, screener, crypto and prediction-market data in one place, want bank and card accounts linked too, or use Android or the web.
Before You Rely on Either
Neither product is personalised investment advice. AI answers can be wrong, stale, or incomplete, so check material claims against the dated primary source. Ecomerate is not a broker.
