How to Get an Automated Pre-Market Brief for Your Holdings
A good morning brief covers the companies you own, says what changed overnight, and stays short when nothing did.
There are four ways to get an automated pre-market brief for your holdings. A finance site can send a portfolio digest: Yahoo Finance's free portfolio alerts and Seeking Alpha's daily portfolio digest both summarise news for the stocks you hold. You can schedule an AI prompt that lists your tickers, with ChatGPT scheduled tasks or Perplexity Tasks. You can build a workflow that reads your holdings from a spreadsheet and summarises overnight news. Or you can use a research agent that already knows your holdings and theses. Ecomerate, an AI research analyst that works over iMessage, sends a pre-market brief on the days and at the time you choose, covering what changed in your theses since the last one.

What should a pre-market brief include?
For an investor who holds individual stocks, a useful brief answers one question: did anything happen since yesterday's close that affects what I own?
- Overnight filings and releases. 8-Ks, results published after the close, guidance updates.
- News that touches your thesis. Not every headline that mentions the ticker.
- Suppliers and customers. A key supplier's warning often reaches your company's share price before its own report does.
- Today's calendar. Which holdings report today or this week.
- Sources. A link or a named document for every claim.
Leave out generic market commentary and futures moves unless you trade on them. A brief that is long every day stops being read within a fortnight.
How do you write a scheduled AI prompt for a morning brief?
If you use ChatGPT or Perplexity, the prompt does all the work, because the assistant does not otherwise know what you hold. A starting point:
Every weekday before 9am New York time, check for news, SEC filings and earnings released since the previous US market close for: [TICKERS].
For each company, say in one line what happened and why it might matter, and link the source. My thesis for each: [ONE LINE PER TICKER].
If nothing material happened for a company, leave it out. If nothing happened for any of them, reply "nothing material". Do not quote prices unless you can name the time they are from.
The weaknesses are worth knowing. The prompt goes stale when you buy or sell. The assistant does not remember last week's brief, so it cannot say what changed since then. And general assistants can state prices or figures without a timestamp, so check anything you would act on.
How does Ecomerate's pre-market brief work?
Ecomerate is an AI research analyst for independent investors that works entirely in iMessage. It already holds your positions and the thesis for each one, because you text them to it, so the brief needs no prompt to maintain.
- Set it by text. "Send me a pre-market brief every weekday at 8:30." Daily, weekday, twice-daily and weekly schedules work in your own timezone.
- It covers what changed. Each brief reports developments in your monitored theses since the previous one, from filings, earnings and news.
- It says how sure it is. Each point is marked as verified, still being checked, or contradicted by the evidence, and the message is only as confident as its least verified point.
- It can stay quiet. Days with nothing material can be skipped instead of filled.
- Ask about it later. "What was in this morning's brief?" brings it back.
Two related routines are optional: an earnings-week check-in every Monday before the open, and a recap after each US market close. See earnings alerts for your holdings.

Join the waitlistWhat are the limits of an automated brief?
- Pre-market prices are thin. Moves before the open can reverse at the open; treat them as a prompt to read, not a signal.
- News arrives late or early. A release published a minute after your brief will be in the next one.
- Summaries can be wrong. Open the filing or release before acting on anything material.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get automated pre-market briefs for my holdings?
Use a portfolio digest from a finance site (Yahoo Finance portfolio alerts, Seeking Alpha portfolio digests), schedule an AI prompt that lists your tickers (ChatGPT scheduled tasks, Perplexity Tasks), build a spreadsheet workflow, or use a research agent that already knows your holdings. Ecomerate sends one to iMessage at the time you choose.
Can ChatGPT send me a daily stock brief?
Yes. ChatGPT scheduled tasks run a prompt on a schedule and notify you by push or email. On the free plan a task runs at most once a day in a flexible window such as morning; paid plans allow exact times. It only knows the holdings you put in the prompt.
What should a pre-market brief include?
Overnight filings and press releases for your holdings, results reported after the previous close, guidance changes, news about key suppliers and customers, and which holdings report today. Leave out generic market commentary.
Is a pre-market brief worth it if I am a long-term investor?
Only if it is short and quiet on days when nothing happened. A brief that arrives every day with filler trains you to ignore it.
How does Ecomerate's pre-market brief work?
Text it something like 'send me a pre-market brief every weekday at 8:30'. It sends a message at that local time covering what changed in your theses since the last brief, says how well each point is verified, and can skip days when nothing material happened.
